OBJECTIVE:

To practise speed of ball handling & alignment.

EQUIPMENT:

One ball per group.

20 x 10 metre grid.

DRILL EXPLANATION:

  1. Backline sets up with a runner next to the halfback facing the opposing touchline.
  2. Halfback feeds the backline who must pass the ball through the line before the runner gets across the field i.e. the ball must beat the player.

COACHING POINTS:

• Players run straight.
• Concentrate on hand speed with pass and follow-through.
• Work both ways across the field so as to practise passing both ways.

VARIATIONS / PROGRESSION:

Introduce a flat backline arrangement.
