To attack with ball regained from opposition.

DRILL SET-UP:

Position the team with the loose forwards, wings and fullback on defence and the balance of the team on attack, as shown in the diagram.

DRILL EXPLANATION:

  1. The ball is thrown into the lineout, controlled and delivered to the halfback.
  2. The ball is received by the halfback (9), who feeds the three inside backs (10, 12, and 13). They use a kicking option to attack down the field.
  3. The loose forwards (6, 7, 8) apply pressure on the inside backs.
  4. Upon recovery of the kick by the back three (11, 14, 15) they counterattack and, once onside, the whole team joins in.

COACHING POINTS:

• Delivery of the ball from the lineout.
• Accuracy of the kick.
• Communication of the team to the back 3.
• Support of team to back three.

VARIATIONS / PROGRESSION:

  1. Add in extra players to make up the numbers to form two complete teams.
  2. All the players act as opposition to the fullback and wings.
