OBJECTIVE:

Improve jumping technique and timing.

EQUIPMENT:

One ball per pair.

GROUP SIZE:

Two.

AREA:

2m x 2m.

DRILL SET-UP:

Two players face each other at a distance of about 1.5 metres as shown in the diagram.

DRILL EXPLANATION:

  1. Player A jumps and pushes the ball into the air for Player B.
  2. Player B jumps up and whilst still in the air, catches the ball and returns it to Player A.
  3. Player A jumps and whilst still in the air, catches the ball and returns it to Player B.
  4. The drill continues for a set period of time or until a mistake is made.

COACHING POINTS:

• The ball should always be caught in two hands.
• The jumpers should always keep their head up and eyes on the ball.
• Timing of the jump is the essential thing, as the jumper should be at the top of the jump to take the ball.
• The jumpers should not tap the ball, but should catch and push it.
