DRILL SET-UP:

Two tackle bags on ground simulate ruck/maul situation.

DRILL EXPLANATION:

  1. Halfback and first five-eight in attack; team in tackle suits; rest of attackers carrying hit shields.
  2. Defenders align on tackle bags for ruck/maul (Rocks and Bootman).
  3. Attacking 9 and 10 work options with runners (carrying shields) running into holes.
  4. Defenders communicate and effect tackle.

COACHING POINTS:
• Defenders understand team defensive patterns.
• Clear communication.
• Heads up - no ball watching.
• Holding behind offside line.
• Filling up inside space.
