OBJECTIVE:

To develop players' skill at running onto the ball at pace and with depth.

EQUIPMENT:

One ball per group and 10 cones.

GROUP SIZE:

10 in each group.

AREA:

25m x 50m.

DRILL EXPLANATION:

  1. Two lines of players are formed so that each player in Team A stands behind and in between two players in Team B.
  2. The ball travels across Team A and, when the ball reaches the last player in Team A, the ball is popped up to a player in Team B as they surge through.
  3. Team B then run in a line in front of Team A and pass the ball along the line, with Team A running behind and in between them.

COACHING POINTS:

• When passing the ball, the emphasis should be on the speed of passing.
• The team that runs through should do so at pace.
• Communication is vital among all players.
