OBJECTIVE:

To improve passing and timing of running.

EQUIPMENT:

One ball per group.

GROUP SIZE:

5–8 players per group.

AREA:

15m x 15m.

DRILL SET-UP:

Players line up in single file, one metre apart. Player at front has the ball.

DRILL EXPLANATION:

  1. On “go”, all players behind move to the left or to the right in an arc to receive the pass.
  2. When the player at the end receives the ball, that player scores a try and then goes to the front of the line.
  3. Players then repeat the drill in the opposite direction.

COACHING POINTS:

• Players receiving the pass should have their hands up ready, setting a target.
• Passer should give soft passes for the receiver.
• Receiver should attempt to move straight when receiving the ball.
• Players should pass with bent arms and off the fingers.
• Passer should not fall away from the pass.
