OBJECTIVE:

To make a restart from halfway or 22-metre line.

EQUIPMENT:

Balls and tee.

GROUP SIZE:

2–4.

AREA:

35m x 20m.

DRILL SET-UP:

5m x 5m coned target area.

DRILL EXPLANATION:

  1. Player is to drop-kick ball into target area.
  2. From centre of field, drop-kick the ball so it lands over the 10m line.
  3. After 4–6 attempts, change players or move the target area.
  4. Other three players could be practising catching the ball or putting pressure on catcher.

COACHING POINTS:

1. Identify target area.
2. Eyes on ball.
3. Stay balanced and relaxed.
4. Firm contact with foot.
5. Follow through after contact.

VARIATIONS / PROGRESSION:

  1. Decrease size of target area.
  2. Do a deep kick (ie target area on 22m).
