OBJECTIVE:

To practise second phase continuity.

EQUIPMENT:

One ball per group.

GROUP SIZE:

One forward pack, one backline, and two defenders.

AREA:

DRILL EXPLANATION:

  1. The backline goes through a passing movement.
  2. When the ball arrives at the last player (D), they are held by the defenders.
  3. The forwards (X) are lying on their stomachs and after the first pass they can get up and go in support of the backs.
  4. Once the forwards reach the defenders they must organise themselves so to maul the ball back.
  5. The backs and the defenders realign.
  6. Player D acts as halfback and the ball moves through the backs again and the drill continues.

COACHING POINTS:

• Focus on the accuracy and running of the backs.
• Body position of the forwards.
• Communication.
• Depth of the back line.
• Speed by supporting players.
